Rooted in Home, Rooted in Community

May always feels like a season of movement.

“For Sale” signs start popping up in neighborhoods, moving trucks appear in driveways, and families begin preparing for new chapters once the school year wraps up. Some are relocating across town, while others are starting over in entirely new communities.

Here’s a fun fact about me: I never really moved growing up. I was born and raised in the same home, attended the same school system from kindergarten through graduation, and aside from one year in northern Missouri for college, I’ve lived in the same county my entire life. Even as an adult, I’ve only lived in two homes.

So while I may not fully understand the emotions that come with packing up your life and starting somewhere new, I do understand something deeper that connects all of us: the need for belonging. We all want a home base. A place where we can exhale at the end of the day. A place that feels familiar, comforting, and truly ours.

That feeling is part of what has kept Dave Griggs' Flooring America rooted right here for over 51 years on the same street. Through changing trends, growing families, retirements, first apartments, forever homes, and everything in between, we’ve had the privilege of helping people create spaces that feel like home.

Some customers walk through our doors excited about their very first house. Others are downsizing after decades in the same family home. Some are blending families, renovating after life changes, or preparing a home to age gracefully in for years to come. Flooring may seem like a practical purchase on the surface, but we’ve learned it often represents something much bigger: a fresh start, a safe landing place, or the next chapter of a family story.

One of the greatest gifts of being locally owned for so many years is that strangers rarely stay strangers for long. Over time, customers become familiar faces. Familiar faces become friends. And those friends send friends.

There’s something special about building a business — and a life — with deep roots in a community. We are grateful that generations of families have trusted us to be part of their homes and their stories.

Whether you’re settling into your very first place, preparing a home for retirement years, or simply ready for a change under your feet, we’d love to help you create a space that feels welcoming the moment you walk through the door.

Because home isn’t just where you live.
It’s where life happens.
