The Winter Blues Take on a Whole New Shade

Although I feel it in my heart every single day, I probably don’t say it out loud often enough—my team is truly incredible. If I gave them the credit they deserve, I’d be shouting it from every hilltop. As we stepped into the new year, we spent time together brainstorming ways to better communicate with and inspire our clients—both in our showroom and beyond.

One idea that immediately resonated was the creation of monthly design boards, thoughtfully curated and displayed throughout our showroom. As local flooring experts, one of the biggest advantages we offer our clients is the ability to see, touch, and experience flooring and design materials in person. Our showroom isn’t just a place to shop—it’s a place to imagine what your home can become.

For January, I’m thrilled to showcase our very first vision board, created by McKenna, one of our talented in-house Interior Designers. (You can read her bio here.) She stepped up in a big way, and I was completely blown away by both her creativity and her intentional design choices.

McKenna’s Design Vision

“January is often associated with blue, but I wanted to show that blue doesn’t have to feel cold or sterile. When layered on a warm foundation, it can feel inviting and timeless.”

Using Cyril Oak luxury vinyl plank throughout the main living areas creates a light, neutral base that complements a wide range of color palettes. Light floors help reflect natural light, draw the eye upward, and make spaces feel open—while also being incredibly practical. Light to medium flooring tones are less likely to show dust, making them ideal for everyday living.

Darker wood cabinetry and furniture add warmth and contrast, offering easier upkeep than all-white finishes. A glossy cream countertop and backsplash keep the space bright while allowing the natural wood tones to shine. The elongated subway tile with a handmade texture feels both classic and fresh—a balance we love in timeless home design.

Color and texture come into play through countertops and area rugs, where chunky veining and layered patterns create cohesion throughout the home. For added contrast, McKenna recommends a slate-look LVP in spaces like laundry rooms or hall baths. And if carpet is preferred in bedrooms, selecting a tone that blends with the main flooring helps maintain a seamless flow from room to room.

The result? A design that feels clean, warm, and just playful enough—a perfect way to kick off the new year.
