Introducing the Makers’ Collection
You know that question you get asked from time to time, what would be your dream job if you weren’t doing what your doing now? My top three picks: Boutique Owner, Theatrical Set Designer, Personal Shopper.
At an early age I was intrigued by individual style, texture and function. No matter if it was my Grandmother piecing together a handmade dress pattern or my Dad constructing something out of galvanized metal or wood. That mix of form and function is what led me to my Degree in Textile and Apparel Management and ultimately to my career in Flooring where I could use my strengths of math and science meets artistry and design.
Recently I’ve been exploring makers some locally and others across the United States whose life’s work is creating unique products in small batches, paying close attention to materials, presentation and craftsmanship, really bringing creativity to their industry.
So, when a small space opened up in my showroom I decided to search out a few unique items. I’ve taken time getting to know each maker and listening to their unique story, hand picking ones who are, for the most part, women owned, small batch makers in the United States using eco-friendly materials and giving back for the greater good a portion of their earnings to the cause of their choice.
What's in this collection? There is a spectrum of home goods ranging from organic cleaners, room scents, hand knotted rugs, carefully carved bowls with hand dipped candles but my love for textiles couldn’t help but include in the mix soft cotton muslin swaddles in muted patterns, baby teething rings and necklaces, hand crafted leather and suede bags, ties and accessories crafted from high quality vintage fabrics, the most unique rag dolls in a multitude of skin tones and even hand made organic dog treats wrapped up for a canine special day.
This Makers’ Collection is meant to enhance any home and lifestyle whether it’s for yourself or a well thought out gift. And because I also want to do my fare share for the greater good a portion of every sale will go to help a woman in need to create her unique story.
To my friends and family who read this blog please do me the honor of sharing with your squad the new social media connections on Instagram and Facebook where you can keep up to date with products and offers. And stay tune to the Flooring America website for a link to the Makers' Collection that will be coming soon.
If you happen to be a Maker of unique goods who would like to add those products to the mix lets grab coffee I want to hear your story, or if you are looking for unique gifts for your family, clients or co workers lets engage in a conversation, I would love to help you with distinctive and thoughtful gifts for anyone on your list.
Keep Living in Grace,
Michele
