Labor Day Reflections

What does Labor Day signify to you?  I grew up in a household where my Father was a tradesman, so of course we were taught the patriotic significance of this first Monday in September, but as a child and even as a parent of children Labor Day also signified the last long weekend to pack in every last bit of summer before schedules shifted. During that period of my life I would have told you summer was by far my favorite season and how appreciative I was to have those few extra moments to gather for fun in the sun memories.

Owning an Independent Retail Business it’s a difficult decision to intentionally be closed on a day that there may be shoppers looking and ready to hand over commerce for my goods. In our world of 24 hour a day shopping potential there is a chance I may be judged and even receive negative reviews for being inconvenient to shop. But as a boss and leader I also have to take into consideration my employees and their families and what time means to the quality of their life. As a business owner I get to make the choice that loss potential revenues of the day can never really outweigh the memories that are being made with this small gift of Labor Day to my team.

At Flooring America, spending time with family is by far the glue that sticks us all together. We are grateful for the clients who make our daily work possible allowing us to provide and nurture our loved ones.  We believe design and function, greatly impact lives, yours and ours. We are honored you invite us into your homes to help you create a beautiful environment where everything is designed to support your life.

We champion helping you create this space, and giving you extra time and attention to do what really matters to you.  And I personally find honor that we are now serving clients that come in and tell us that they are starting a family and came to us because their parents and Grandparents did business with us.  You see you probably don’t give that floor you grew up on much thought, but that’s what we do.

So, this Labor Day, as I hang the closed for the day sign on the door, I hope you are allowed a day to celebrate your labors. 2020 has meant so many changes and uncertainty still lies ahead but at the end of this long weekend I hope you have made some fantastic memories that you can hold onto for another trip around the sun.

Keep Living in Grace,

Michele
